The children of Ulrick and Anna Fries.

Signe Cecelia Fries, the first child of Ulrick and Anna Fries was born on the homestead near Brewster on November 1, 1892. She rode to school horseback two miles by herself. Quit school in the seventh grade and went to work in town. She married Carl Hanson in October, 1912. After farming for five years, they moved to Seattle and then to Tacoma. She resides there and makes a home for her seven children, Ingwer Leroy, Richard Franklin, Anna Ruth, Ellen Marie, Lois Evelyn, David Carl, and Mary Alice. (Died Oct. 12, 1999)

Ingwer was born in April 1915, on the ranch near Brewster. He graduated from the Eatonville, Washington, high school and is now studying and working his way up in the field of civil engineering. ("This is wrong," written in Signe's hand. )

Richard was born in August 1916, on a ranch near Brewster. He graduated. from the Eatonville, Washington high school. He is employed in the Pierce County Tuberculosis Sanitarium, contributes generously to his mother, and is studying aviation by correspondence.

Anna Ruth was born in March, 1918, in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from the Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Washington, showed marked talent in art, and is now a graduate nurse from the Tacoma General Hospital, where she is now employed. On September 5, 1941, she married Harold Jacobson.

Ellen Marie was born in Tacoma, Washington, March, 1920. She graduated from the Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington, and later completed a course in beauty culture. On November 22, 1941, she married Layton Stalcup.

Lois Evelyn was born August, 1925, in Tacoma, Washington, and is a good student and plans to be a ballerina.

Carl David, was born August 22, 1927 in Tacoma, Washington. Graduated from Stadium High School. Enlisted in the Navy and on his return home after serving his country, he entered the University of Washington and became an electrical engineer. He married Mary Breed of Port Orchard. They have three children.

Mary Alice, born in Roy, Washington, 1932, was afflicted as a Mongoloid (Down's Syndrome) child and in 1937 was entered at the Eastern Washington Custodial School. Died 1943.

David Christian Fries, the second child of Ulrick and Anna Fries, was born March 23, 1894, on the homestead near Brewster. He attended the local frontier school, showed talent for writing, and took on active part in the Grange. In November, 1918, he enlisted in the Naval aviation He was stationed at San Diego, California, and at Rockaway Beach, Long Island, New York. In the spring of 1919 he returned to his boyhood home and engaged in farming with his father and brothers. Ill health overtook him and in 1925 he was entered at the Veterans' Hospital at American Lake. His condition and ailment was a brain tumor. He passed away at the Government Hospital at American Lake, February 18, 1926. He is buried in the Brewster Cemetery.

Jergen Jacob Frederik Fries, the third child of Ulrick and Anna Fries, was born September 26, 1896, on the homestead near Brewster, Washington. Attended local school and showed special talent and interest in stock raising and now manages the home farm in partnership with his father. On April 3, 1932, he married Lola May Peckenpaugh, the daughter of Lloyd and Elsie Peckenpaugh of Benton City, Washington. They have two sons; Lloyd Ulrick, born December 26, 1933, and Ralph Jacob, born July 19, 1937. Both boys are healthy, alert, and always trying to outdo one another in doing chores about the fann. Jacob is an active member of the I.O.F. Lodgo. Lola belongs to the Rebekah Lodge.

The fourth child of Ulrick and Anna Fries was born July 5, 1897, and died three days later.

Frederikke Eleonora (Tulla) Fries, the fifth child of Ulrick and Anna Fries, was born September 5, 1898, on the homestead near Brewster, Washington. She is known to every friend and relative as Tulla, her own chosen baby name for herself. She attended local school and later studied nursing. On April 23, 1921, she married Ray Warner of Malott, Washington. He was a farmer and an all-around handy man with tools and machinery. He is an active member of the Rebekah and I.O.C. Lodges. Tulla is an active member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Congregational Church. They have two children, Florence Stella, born January 18, 1922, and Fred Sylvester, born January 10, 1924. Florence graduated from high school with honors, attended one year of college and has now entered the St. Peter's School of Nursing in Olympia, Washington. Fred will graduate from the Brewster High School in the spring of 1942. He is a good student and takes part in all athletics. Ray Warner is the son of Dewitt Clinton and Clara Ella Warner.

Emil Benedict Fries, the sixth child of Ulrick and Anna Fries, was born on February 11, 1901, on the homestead near Brewster, Washington. Attended local school briefly and 1ater entered the school for the Blind at Vancouver, Washington, where he graduated from high school. He was graduated from the University of Washington in 1930. He is a piano tuner and teaches in the Washington State School for the Blind at Vancouver, Washington. He is a member of the National Association of Piano Tuners, the Masonic Lodge, and the Congregational Church. He is widely interested in social, economic, and political problems.
On November 23, 1930, Emil married Nettle Irene Fried of Seattle, Washington. She is the daughter of Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Fried and sister of Dr. E.R. Fried and Mrs. Edward Foote, the proprietor of the Junior Shoe Shop. Both families live in Seattle, Washington. Nettie graduated in Art Craft from the University of Washington. She is active in Women's Club work. She has a ready, cheerful laugh which smoothes the path for many. Emil and Nettie have an adopted daughter, Helen Jean. She was born September 23, 1923. She graduated from the high school at Vancouver, Washington, as Valedictorian. Out of a class of 262 graduates, her grades for the four-year course consisted of 3 B's and all the rest of her grades were A's. She is interested in music and has entered the Oregon State College at Salem, Oregon, majoring in home economics. Sylvia Rose Fries, the seventh child of Ulrick and Anna Fries, was born August 25, 1904, on the homestead near Brewster, Washington. Attended local school and Brewster High School. On June 25, 1925, she married Harold Archie Christianson of Okanogan, Washington. He is an automobile mechanic and is in charge of the United States Forest Service repair shop at Twisp, Washington. He is an active menber of the Masonic Lodge, and Sylvia is an active member of the Eastern Star. She is an immaculate housekeeper and is active in church affairs. They have two boys, Hubert Harold, born August 7, 1927, at Twisp, Washington, and Robert Edward, born July 2, 1933, at Twisp. (Robert owns a ranch outside of Twisp. ) Harold is the son of Andrew Christianson, who was born in Norway, April 26, 1870. On July 1, 1899, he married Hannah Krestina Wallar, born in Iggersund, Sweden, May 8, 1872.

Marie Louise Fries, the eighth child of Ulrick and Anna Fries, was born August 1, 1910, on the homestead near Brewster, Washington. She graduated from the Brewster, Washington, high school and attended two years at the University of Washington. She attended business college in Seattle, Washington, and now does secretarial work in the state offices in Olympia, Washington. Her hobbies are horseback riding, golf, skating and other athletics.
