Gram was born November 1,1892, on the family ranch, Green Valley Farm, outside of Brewster, Washington. She was the oldest of eight children. By the time she was six, she was washing dishes, standing on a chair to reach the dish pan. She helped cook, clean house, and care for her six younger brothers and sisters as well as the farm animals and garden.
