The last five years of her life Gram lived with my parents, her daughter Ruth and Harold. She never stopped being interested in the world. If her eyesight had allowed, she’d have learned to use a computer. She lived life completely, rarely lingering on the past and always interested in what was coming.

Gram had wanted to live long enough to see three different centuries, but not bad enough to wait the year out.

She had other things to do.
